Circulation Policy
Students are encouraged to come to the South Jackson Media Center as often as they would like (and their teacher allows) to borrow books for their reading pleasure and instructional needs.
PreK - Kindergarten students are allowed to check out one book at a time.
1st - 5th-grade students may have two books checked out at a time.
Books are checked out to students for a two-week period. At the end of two weeks, books should be either returned or brought in and checked out again. A book that has been overdue for a month (and therefore checked out for six weeks) is considered lost. Students must return, renew, or begin paying for the lost book before additional books are checked out.Students are strongly encouraged to find a safe place at home to keep their library books whenever they are not reading them. We recommend that they always put their book back in the same safe place (or their bookbag) every time and to tell their parent or guardian where this safe place is.
Parents, if you move your child to a new school during the school year, be sure South Jackson library books and classroom books are returned before withdrawing your child. -
Please note that the eBook and audiobook titles listed in our South Jackson Elementary School Destiny Library Catalog include some titles that are available only to our middle and high school students. Elementary students only have access to check out and read print and digital books that are a part of our elementary collection.
Destiny is our digital catalog of resources. You can use Destiny to explore the books we have in the library as well as our collection of eBooks.

Overdrive houses our collection of eBooks and Audiobooks. You can use Overdrive to search for and check out eBooks anytime and anywhere!

Tales2Go is an additional collection of audiobooks that we have available for South Jackson students.

Tales2Go is an award-winning kids’ mobile audiobook service that streams thousands of name-brand titles to mobile devices and desktops in the classroom and beyond.
The benefits of listening to audiobooks include enhanced vocabulary, fluency, and listening skills. Studies show that when a listening component is added to reading instruction, student achievement increases measurably. Students are able to read at a higher level without having to decode each word on a page and they hear modeled fluent expressive reading.
Tales2Go can be used on a desktop, laptop, iPad, iPhone, iTouch or Android. This means you can use it at home, or on the go! -
What is a makerspace?
Our makerspace is a part of our media center where students can come and create, experiment, and work together on a wide variety of projects.
What can students do in the makerspace?
Students use a variety of high-tech and low-tech tools to create and build in our makerspace. They may learn some more advanced skills, such as how to build and code a robot, design an object to print using our 3D printer, or use electronics and coding kits to make cardboard creations move. They may also design their own creations using cardboard, construction paper, and/or other craft materials. In addition to this, they may also choose to build on our Lego wall or with kits such as Straw Builders or K'Nex. We have activities available for all ages, skills levels, and interests.
What are the benefits of participating in makerspace activities?
Not only do students get the benefit of learning how to use a variety of tools and kits, but they also build creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills along the way. Students learn the importance of perseverance when trying out a new tool or creating a new invention. They learn to take a step back when things don't work as they had planned, then to make adjustments and try again. The makerspace is also a place where students get to explore their interests and be creators of their own content and designs.
When can students visit the makerspace?
Our makerspace is open during our regular media center hours during the school day. Students are able to visit the space as time allows in the classroom and they have permission from their teacher to do so.
