  • How can I refer my child for counseling services?

You are more than welcome to call us at the school (706) 543-8798, email us at rpoehler@jcss.us or adiesch@jcss.us, or send a note through your child to the school. We will be happy to answer any questions about the counseling services at our school.

Can you see my child for counseling all year?

Since the school counselors need to be available for all students, we are here to assist with short-term counseling (4-6 sessions). We would be glad to assist you with finding outside counseling services for your child.

What kind of issues do you see students for?

We are here to assist with any issue that may be interfering with your child’s education. We see students for friendship issues, academic concerns, testing anxiety, grief, how to handle emotions, and how to develop/use coping skills, just to name a few reasons to refer for counseling services.

Will my child be embarrassed to leave the classroom with the school counselor?

No! We believe in being very visible throughout the school. Because of this, the school counselor is seen as a normal part of the school atmosphere and students are usually very excited about seeing the counselor. We always tell our students that the school counselor is their friend who helps with their problems and teaches them how to be their best self.
