Teacher of the Year – Wilbanks

Lisa Wilbanks Teacher of the Year 2016-2017Lisa Wilbanks is the Media Resource Specialist at South Jackson Elementary School. Mrs. Wilbanks also represents Jackson County as the System Teacher of the Year.

She is a graduate of Furman University where she earned degrees in Music and Elementary Education.  She also earned a Master’s degree in Children’s Literature and Language Arts from the University of Georgia as well as an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Technology and School Library Media from the University of West Georgia.

Mrs. Wilbanks works with students in the media center to not only conduct research and read, but to also design, build, and create meaningful projects and inventions.  She encourages critical thinking and helps to develop essential 21st century skills through carefully designed projects that are hands-on and engaging for her students.

She believes that student choice is important to maintaining engagement and works to help students connect the curriculum with their current interests in a way that reinforces their classroom lessons.

Outside of school, Mrs. Wilbanks enjoys traveling and playing tennis.
