Our School

Welcome to South Jackson Elementary School!

Students at SJES in grades PreK-4 are in self-contained homerooms.   Students in grade 5 are associated with a departmentalized team. Each team consists of two teachers. One teacher covers math and science, and the other covers ELA and social studies.

The instructional program includes language arts (reading, writing, spelling, listening, speaking), mathematics, social studies, science, technology, health, physical education, art, drama, and music. We also have a nurse, a counselor, and a media specialist.

Parental involvement and support are encouraged through conferences, home journals, progress reports, email and phone calls.

We have an after school/summer care program. We also have career day, curriculum nights, and LIFE meetings.  In addition to this, we have after school maker’s, Honors Chorus, and running clubs.

Our students move on to sixth and seventh grade at East Jackson Middle School and eighth through 12th grades at East Jackson Comprehensive High School.

Welcome to South Jackson Elementary School!  I am very excited about serving as principal of this great school.  I have been in education for 24 years and have been fortunate to spend all of those years in the Jackson County School System. I was a teacher at SJES for 15 years and served as assistant principal for instruction for 3 years before taking a principal position at North Jackson Elementary.  I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the students and families at SJES and look forward to another great year.

As principal of South Jackson, I would like to share my key beliefs with you:

  • Administrators, teachers, students, and parents should give 100% throughout their educational experiences.
  • Communication is the key to a successful organization.
  • True learning comes from quality instruction, high expectations, parent support, and challenging all students.
  • Parents are a school’s greatest resource for promoting and sustaining learning.

Our faculty and staff excel in their respective areas.  They encourage and expect students to stretch themselves beyond their comfort zone to realize that all things are possible through dedication and determination.  Classroom instruction at South Jackson stimulates eager minds and helps to foster a joy of learning.

I want the best for each of your children!  Your concerns, comments, and ideas are appreciated and respected.  You may contact me at 706-543-8798 or by e-mail at rbrooksher@jcss.us.

At South Jackson Elementary School we are committed to “Excellence In Action” each and every day!  Again, I look forward to a wonderful year and promise to give my very best for this outstanding school community.

Resa Brooksher

Assistant Principal

Welcome to school year 2020-2021 at South Jackson Elementary School!  I am extremely honored to be serving as Assistant Principal at a school that is committed to helping students succeed in all areas: academically, socially, and emotionally. Although this is my first year at SJES, I have been in the field of education for over 20 years, serving as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and instructional coach. I am very excited to be taking the next step in my career with the caring, bright, and dedicated staff members, students, and families of South Jackson!

At SJES, we believe all students should feel safe, respected, valued, and supported as they learn and grow each day. A learning structure built on positive relationships among staff and students and a safe environment in which to learn are top priorities at SJES. We believe that students are more willing to take risks and engage in challenging learning experiences when they are supported by caring teachers and staff members.

I want the students at  SJES to have quality learning experiences in which they are able to learn, grow, and thrive. Your input is welcome and most appreciated. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions at 706-543-8798 or by email at dwilson@jcss.us.

I look forward to a remarkable year with all of our students, families, and staff members as our SJES Eagles SOAR to new heights!
